NATHAN MILLS (Augusta, GA)

WHERE TO LISTEN
To better understand aural tuning, we will learn to
recognize intervals, and the aural checks needed
for those most commonly used. We will tune a
sliding 4th temperament and spread it through the
midrange. You will leave knowing where your "ear
needs to be" for each step of the process.

STARR TAYLOR (Tampa, FL)
IMPROVING GRAND PIANO PERFORMANCE,

20 TIPS
This intermediate/advanced class is designed to
help technicians look at the piano from the inside
out. The tips in this class will address unusual
problems when servicing grand pianos as well as
improving old tried and true methods for adjusting
pedals & actions. Topics include adjusting
nosebolts for tuning stability, addressing string
deflection when using temperament strips,
properly seating strings on the bridges,
eliminating grand pedal noise, reducing friction in
the piano action, adjusting the tricky repetition
spring, and properly bushing the pitman pin hole
in the keybed. A detailed handout is included.

JOHN PARHAM (Central NC)
THINGS ALL PIANO TECHNICIANS SHOULD KNOW
As a professional piano technician, what kind of
things do you need to know before you walk into a
customer’s home? The list is long and broad. We
should have at least cursory knowledge in a wide
range of topics. This interactive PowerPoint class
provides familiarity with a variety of subjects that
you will encounter throughout your career.

ASHLEY TURNER (Vienna, VA)
BUSINESS STRATEGIES: A BALANCED PERSPECTIVE
Ashley will cover a wide range of non-technical
philosophies, systems, and strategies for a
satisfying career in piano technology based on
over twenty years experience as an independent
piano technician. Ashley began her piano
technology career in 2004 and utilizes her
background in psychology and mental health to
share perspectives harnessed and honed from
countless mistakes she’s made over the years.
